A mobile app that tracks and displays various car performance metrics in real-time using React Native, Expo, Bluetooth and OBD-II and UDS integration.
About the Project
Car Metrics App is a mobile application designed to connect to BLE OBD-II and UDS devices, send specific commands to obtain vehicle data, and display real-time performance metrics through an intuitive interface in Grafana developed with React Native and Expo.
As a mobile developer, I built the application from scratch, implementing a robust Bluetooth communication layer for reliable transmission of UDS and OBD-II data. I also assembled a clean, intuitive, and user-friendly interface that effectively displays Bluetooth connections, vehicle data, and diagnostic statuses.
The project faced several technical challenges, including managing Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connections and statuses, implementing a native module in Kotlin to handle the BLE connection on Android, and, the biggest challenge of all, ensuring that the application worked completely in the background, without user interaction, correctly recording data and journeys, as well as correctly managing the mobile device's battery.
